FISHING FAQs

Where do the sessions take place?

The majority of the sessions take place on the Erewash Canal between Sandiacre and Sawley. Prior to each session, you will be notified of the exact meeting place, including parking options. 121 sessions take place on a commercial lake in Sawley, Derbyshire.

How many people can attend a family session?

Family sessions are suitable for 2 - 5 people, with a minimum of 1 adult required to fish. All of the family who are taking part will take in turns throughout the 90-minute session to fish, so the less there are, the more time each person will get to try and catch!

What age can children attend the intro and junior coaching session?

Parents do not need to stay for the duration of the intro and junior coaching sessions. Children need to be signed in at drop off and signed out when collected by a parent. Due to this, children need to be a minimum of 8 years old to attend the intro, junior and 121 sessions.

What age are the adult sessions for?

Anyone aged 18 and above! There is no upper age limit, fishing truly is a sport that all ages can enjoy!

What if I don't have any fishing tackle?

No problem! Tackle is provided for all our family, intro and coaching sessions, so there is no excuse to not have a go!

Can I use my own fishing tackle?

Our family sessions and intro sessions allow you to get straight into fishing - The tackle is already set up and waiting for you at the start of your session. As such, Major Oak Fishing tackle is only to be used in these sessions. During coaching sessions, where anglers set up their own tackle, you are welcome to use your own tackle if you wish.

Are you insured to deliver coaching sessions?

Yes, as a UKCC Level 2 Angling Coach and licensed Angling Trust Coach, I have full insurance cover to deliver fishing coaching sessions. I am also enhanced DBS checked and first aid trained.

How do we make payment for sessions?

Once your booking is confirmed, payment details will be sent. Payment can be made via Paypal or Bank Transfer.

Do we need to bring anything to sit on?

Each fishing station is equipped with a box or seat for the person fishing to sit on. If you are attending a family session, you may want to bring additional camping chairs for other participants to sit on. Likewise, if you want to stay and watch someone fish during their session, you are welcome to bring your own seat!

What should we wear for the sessions?

Fishing is an outdoor sport, so clothing and footwear to suit the weather on the day of your session is advisable. In summer, sunglasses can be useful for seeing the float if there is a reflection on the water. Hats and sun cream are also recommended in the summer months.
